Ahhh!!!!!!!!!

OK I love this. A good friend gave it to me as a gift and I think it's amazing for a few reasons.

One: Obviously, the packaging is adorable/fun and I love the brand.

Two: Great color combos

Three (and probably most important): The palette comes in a huge tin. BUT - the 3 mini palettes are detachable (as shown above) and are super thin and compact for travel/touch-ups.

I usually have to resist purchasing any type of gift set, even though I really WANT IT REALLY BAD. But what I find happening, is I like maybe one or two things within the set, then i'm left with a ton of product that I don't like or use. Also, the gift sets/tins/etc are usually big and bulky and I have nowhere to store them (even though this one is reallyyyyy cute i'll have to find a place for it!)

The Arlecchino palette (the middle palette above) made me go out of my comfort zone of warm/golds/nudes. I've been using Ninja Dog (the fun purple shade) a lot, and have been getting compliments on it! I also like using the shades Bullets, LA Gun & Candy Cane for the inner corners.

Bottom line: Love the shadows. Love that the palettes are detachable. I've begun using purple shadow. The end.

Pork & Politics – Stuff It! Chicago Style

Here's a promotional piece from Endangered News regarding Ray Noland's Pork & Politics art show, which will be showing one of my paintings next week. This will be the third Chicago area show I've participated in, if you count the Run Blago Run show, which unfortunately misplaced and never displayed one of my Rod Blagojevich pancake paintings. I've decided to forgo my 'Obama Emanuel Sears Tower' painting which I had been developing and instead finish a single larger portrait of Emanuel, which I think will be effective.

Pork & Politics – Stuff It! Chicago Style is a group art show that brings to life the combinatrix of two of Chicago’s favorite institutions — Politics and the Hot Dog. Apparently, inspired by the quote, “Laws are like sausages. It’s better not to see them being made,” select artists envision politicians enjoying the widely consumed cylinder of random meat products, while incorporating Chicago’s rich vienna sausage history. The politicians include the full roster of upcoming Chicago Mayoral candidates: Emanuel, Chico, Meeks, Braun, Hendon and many more. Not to be forgotten are the Chi-town favorites: Blago, Barack Obama and Richard M. Daley.

Artist Biography:

Ray Noland aka CRO is on the pulse of contemporary pop and political culture. Noland has produced some of the most exciting and innovative art exhibitions in Chicago’s recent history; from his Go Tell Mama! – Officially Unofficial exhibitions which were the first ever Obama art inspired exhibitions in the country, to his Run, Blago, Run campaign and exhibition which documented Rod Blagojevich from indictment to hung-jury to his most recent Sweet Tea & American Values exhibition which was the kick-off exhibition at Chicago Urban Art Society. Noland also independently published the now-defunct online magazine BLACKLIST®. He has a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has worked professionally as an art director and brand designer. His art & illustrations have been published throughout the US and Europe and are in the collections of the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian. Noland currently lives and works in Chicago. www.creativerescue.org

Pancake in progress

Messy Mya Painting, And Apology

I've removed my former painting of Messy Mya, the one based uoon his death photo, and replaced it with the freshly painted image above.

When I first came across the now infamous photo of Anthony Barre, down on the sidewalk with camera phones in his face, I  immediately related. Lately I've been feeling like a victim of my own online presence so the photo had a meaning to me.  That's why I wrote my name in his blood; I was saying  'I feel like Messy Mya shot down'-trying to entertain and still things go wrong.

I've never run an auction outside of Ebay and directly on this blog before, so I thought if I posted it here with no rules and no conditions that people would 'get' that the auction was meant as a challenge.  I didn't feel the need to spell that part out; I assumed people could figure it out on their own.  Just like Mya made videos and then people took videos of him at his last moment, I was picturing 'myself' in Mya's place and then sarcastically asking 'how many pieces of gold for what I do?'  Basically I was just feeling sorry for myself.  I never really expected to sell the painting and didn't anticipate it would explode like it did on Twitter, or that trashy aggregate sites selling iphones or vacation packages would grab the link to my painting and stick it out there as the first result for 'messy mya death photo' as many did.  Just for the record-I never Twittered the original; I just posted it on my blog and decided that people could either find it or not.

I think that, when you are an artist, like Mya was an artist, you sometimes decide to do a thing solely on inspiration and to get in people's faces and convince yourself not to care what anyone thinks or feels, because if get too sensitive you miss making an important point.  Or so you think.

Reading the comments I saw there were only thirty or so people who were upset, just a fraction of the people who were visiting because of the painting.  I could see they were good people and I was waiting every day for them to 'get it' but it wasn't happening.

So, the auction is over.  I won't sell the original painting to anyone.  I end up selling almost everything I do-but I'll keep that one. I've pulled that image from the internet and replaced it with the portrait of Mya above, which was the happiest and most lively image of him I could find.  The original of this newer painting is also not for sale, but fans may feel free to use the posted image of it in any non-commercial way they might like.

To those good people who were upset by my original painting, I truly apologize.  Sometimes I really am a so-and-so, but I usually try to aim that only at other so-and-so's or myself.

30 Things I Want To Do...

1. Travel back to my favorite place in Italy, Positano

Laughing George Bush Art Print

I've decided to make my Laughing George Bush painting from a few years ago available on Ebay as an art print.



I print these images on 8 by 10 inch canvas, hand brush varnish, sign on the front with metallic ink and sign and personalize on the back. Each print includes a copy of my Palin Pancakes / Barack Obama Nude On A Unicorn art card, and is mailed in a flat foamboard mailer.

New Tarina Treasures

Magic Hour Cream Shadow in Starchild

Many of you know that I am a big Tarina Tarantino fan. I love the style and uniqueness of her jewelry and now, her cosmetics line. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with my two recent purchases above.

I had high hopes for the cream shadow, but don't think that I chose the correct shade for my skin tone. I have a warm skintone, therefore cool silvers and greys sometimes look too harsh on me. I think this was the case here. The feel and payoff of the eye shadow is nice, I just don't like the color on me.

As for the mascara, I got it as a free sample from Sephora with my beauty points. Unfortunately, nothing special. I like a dramatic, thickening mascara and this one is lighter & more natural. Not necessarily a bad product, just not what I usually look for in a mascara.

Sorry for the Debbie Downer review! What I do love of Tarina's though is the Gem Gloss (written about in a previous review). It is fabulous!

Anyone else have a favorite Tarina product?

Something i've always been interested in is how trends change over time. I'm a big fan of anything vintage, and idolize old Moviestars and Starlets. I chose my favorite Makeup Maven from each decade to show how makeup has progressed over the years. They are all beautiful to me in different ways...Enjoy xo

1920's - Clara Bow

Very harsh brows and lips, minimal eye.

Short, cropped hair. Almost doll-like.

1930's - Jean Harlow

Pencil-thin brows, strong cupid-bow lips, and lovely bottom lashes.

Finger-waved, bleach-blonde curls.

1940's - Rita Hayworth

Softer brows, beautiful long lashes, soft smoky eye, and lighter defined red lips

1950's - Elizabeth Taylor

Finally some thick brows! Defined heavy/smoky eye, defined lips

1960's - Brigitte Bardot

Perhaps my favorite look of all time. Beautiful cat eye, light frosty lips, tosseled blonde curls

1970's Farrah Fawcett

What a change from the 60's huh? Overall lightened up look, fresh-faced base & blush, only a touch of mascara & lip. Very girl-next-door. Oh...and the hair, of course.

1980's - Brooke Shields

The 80's...oh dear. Wacky eye brows, colors, and just...everything.

1990's - Cindy Crawford

Brows on the thicker side, minimal eye, rosy lip.

2000-2010 - Angelina Jolie

I know these days, there are seemingly thousands of makeup looks to chose from - but I think Angelina nails it. Simple cat eye, face not overdone, and minimal lip. Oh, and being gorgeous might help a little too.

This is my FAVORITE new mascara. How cool is it?!? As you can see, it has ONE brush, but can be used in two different ways.

If you are going for a more natural lash look, use the brush as shown in the second photo. The tube squeezes off the excess product, leaving you with a cleaner wand to work with. You could also use this way for the inner corners of the eye, or your bottom lashes.

If you're going for a more dramatic & thicker look, use the brush as shown in the third photo. This way does NOT squeeze the excess product off the brush, therefore giving you the ability to layer on more mascara.

I have been using this mascara non-stop since I got it! I used to be a huge Diorshow fan, but I can't get enough of this new MAC mascara. I own a few mascaras from MAC - Plushlash, Pro Longwear, Opulash, etc. This one blows them all out of the water! Definitely worth a try.
